About the Center for Innovation in Learning and Teaching
Dedicated to supporting faculty with creative solutions for impactful education.
From Innovative Learning Hub to the Center for Innovation in Learning and Teaching
CiLT is a development of the Innovative Learning Hub (ILH) which was created in 2017 to support the integration of technology into learning and enhance innovation in teaching at NU. A cornerstone of ILH was the e-Learning Studio, equipped with professional audio-visual equipment to assist faculty in developing high-quality multimedia content for online and blended learning projects.

This was invaluable with the onset of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, which precipitated a rapid transition to online learning, and necessitating the use of new technological tools. The experience highlighted gaps in pedagogical and technological practice across the institution.

Reflection on this experience was the catalyst for the development of the Future Learning Working Group. The final report of the Future Learning Group (2022) recommended the developement of a teaching and learning center with a senior leadership position. The Center was formally constituted in 2024.

The Center continues to build on the foundation work of ILH which focused on the development of active learning classrooms equipped with flexible furniture and advanced technology to engage students and foster interactive learning experiences. (IL spaces photo)

Initiatives like the TA Academy supported teaching assistants by providing them with valuable resources and learning opportunities. Our monthly Reading Club and various training events, such as the iLH BootCamp and Moodle Day Online Sessions, facilitated ongoing professional development and dialogue among faculty.

Now, as the Center for Innovation in Learning and Teaching, we have expanded our core mission, our reach and enhancing our offerings to meet the evolving needs of Nazarbayev University’s faculty, students, and the broader Kazakh higher education community.
